Project Description

The National Grid has awarded Hochtief a contract to construct the Snowdonia Tunnel. This project is part of a significant infrastructure upgrade, with the tunnel intended to house electricity cables and reinforce the power network in the area. The tunnel will extend through the scenic Snowdonia National Park, linking Trawsfynydd and Maentwrog.

This was done to reduce the visual impact of and replace the National Grid’s overhead line across the Dwyryd Estuary from Minffordd to Llandecwyn.

What Was Needed

JCW’s supplies were needed as the national grid required a temporary acoustic barrier whilst major tunnelling works were carried out for underground services. This was needed as the Snowdonia area is a National Park and noise levels are required to be limited.

What We Did

To reduce the noise from construction, JCW’s absorbent sound screens were installed as temporary acoustic barriers. Specifically, 100 metres of 6-metre-high sound screens were used, ensuring noise levels during the tunnelling process remained within acceptable limits of the National Park.

The Result

After JCW supplied and installed Sound Screens in the area, the noise generated during construction was reduced, maintaining acceptable noise levels and minimising disruption to the park and its surroundings.
